TRANSFORMING POWER INFRASTRUCTURE: THE GEOMETRIC INTEGRATED POWER PROJECT’S ROLE IN ADVANCING CLEAN ENERGY AND IMPROVING POWER ACCESSIBILITY IN ABIA STATE

Abia State has set a remarkable example with the commissioning of the Geometric Integrated Power Project. This groundbreaking initiative, spearheaded by Geometric Power Aba Limited, has transformed the energy landscape in Nigeria by providing electricity to nine local governments in Abia State, with a unique focus on clean energy.

The project, boasting a 141MW capacity that can be scaled up to 188MW, is a testament to Abia State’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency. What sets this project apart is its full vertical integration, incorporating both power generation and distribution capabilities. This uniqueness positions it as the only electricity initiative in Nigeria operating in such a comprehensive manner.

Equipped with three GE LM6000 gas turbines, each capable of providing up to 47MW, the power plant ensures a steady supply of electricity. Furthermore, the project includes a 27km gas pipeline to guarantee uninterrupted fuel access, alongside the establishment of three rehabilitated distribution substations, five new substations, and 140km of 33kV/11kV lines utilizing fiber optic cables for efficient data communication.

Beyond being a power source, the Geometric Integrated Power Project will bring about the socio-economic transformation of Abia State. By promoting youth employment, enhancing industrial efficiency and improving living standards, this initiative symbolizes progress and development in the State.

Abia State’s successful implementation of this clean energy project sets a precedent for other States in Nigeria to emulate. Embracing sustainable energy solutions not only ensures a stable power supply but also promotes a sustainable environment for all citizens.

Abia State’s Geometric Integrated Power Project is a proof to the potential of clean energy in enhancing power supply and driving socio-economic development. This initiative serves as a model for sustainable energy practices not only in Nigeria but also globally. Through its innovative approach and comprehensive strategy, Abia State is leading the way towards a greener and more energy-efficient future.
