EMPOWERING IMO YOUTHS: CSAAE HOSTS CAPACITY  BUILDING TRAINING FOR IMO HUMAN RIGHTS ANCHORS

In a bid to cultivate a generation of empowered and informed advocates, the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy and Ethics (CSAAE) recently orchestrated a transformative Capacity Building Training for the Imo Human Rights Anchors (IHRAs). This pivotal event, which took place on Tuesday, 12th December 2023, at the CSAAE head office in Owerri, Imo State, aimed at inaugurating 27 dynamic youths who would represent the 27 local government areas of Imo State as the driving force behind positive change and human rights advocacy.

The focal point of the training was the formal inauguration of these 27 youths into the Imo Human Rights Anchors (IHRAs). This network is poised to become a formidable force in fostering positive change, raising awareness, and actively working towards ensuring the protection and promotion of human rights within the state.

The overarching purpose of the training was to equip the selected youths with the necessary tools to champion the cause of human rights in Imo State. The sessions delved into various aspects, including human rights promotion and protection, an in-depth understanding of the fundamental human rights enshrined in Chapter Four (4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), and the practical tools essential in the fight for human rights in Imo State.

Participants were enlightened on the pivotal role they are expected to play as Imo Human Rights Anchors. Their responsibilities extend beyond mere advocacy to practical engagement in promoting and protecting human rights. The training underscored the significance of their role as catalysts for positive change within their respective localities.

The training did not just stop at theoretical knowledge; it delved into practical ways that IHRAs can effectively promote human rights in Imo State. Participants engaged in discussions and activities designed to impart hands-on skills that will prove instrumental in their advocacy efforts. The event also outlined specific activities that IHRAs will undertake in the course of their engagement, ensuring a strategic and impactful approach to human rights issues.

As the newly inaugurated Imo Human Rights Anchors embark on their mission, armed with knowledge, passion, and a sense of purpose, the training organized by CSAAE serves as a cornerstone for a brighter future. Through this initiative, the torchbearers of human rights advocacy in Imo State are not only well-equipped but also inspired to effect positive change, creating a more just and humane society for all.
