Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment and Safety Program

In commemoration of the 2024 International Day of the Girl Child, themed “Girls’ Vision for the Future”, the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy and Ethics (CSAAE) in collaboration with Heal Global, UNICEF, the Ebuka Amobi Foundation, and other key partners held the  “Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment and Safety Program in Owerri, Imo State, for teenage Imo girls. The capacity building training which took place on the 18th day of October 2024 was part of a two-day program with the aim to equip young girls with essential life skills, including digital skills, to enable them chart a prosperous future.

As part of the program, CSAAE played a key role in providing hands-on training, teaching the girls how to leverage technology and utilize digital tools for advocacy on critical issues that affect girls like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), Child Early Forced Marriage, and Child trafficking. This aligns with CSAAE’s core mission of advocacy, and empowering young people for sustainable social change.

In addition to the digital advocacy training, the program also offered workshops on comprehensive health education, entrepreneurship, self-esteem, self-examination for breast cancer, etc.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of technology, education and advocacy in shaping the future of adolescent girls, while equipping them with the tools they need to lead and advocate for their rights in their communities.
