
Imo Welcomes Nze/ Ekwueme Soccer Academy as Academy Set to Boost Grassroots Football
Umuakuru Emekuku in Owerri North LGA witnessed a day filled with excitement and promise as the Nze/Oluchi Ekwueme Soccer Academy was officially unveiled at the Community Secondary School pitch along Nkwo Emeke Road.
The event attracted a large gathering of football enthusiasts and grassroots supporters eager to witness the dawn of a new era for local football talent.
The ceremony was attended by prominent figures in sports, including Mr Greg Nwadike, representing the Imo State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha.
Members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo Chapter, former footballers, and many well-wishers were also present to endorse the academy’s vision.
A thrilling highlight of the day was a friendly match between the academy’s senior team and Hawks FC. The game showcased skill, determination, and fresh talent, ending in an engaging 1-1 draw that left fans eager for future fixtures.
Stakeholders praised the initiative, recognizing the founders’ dedication to youth development and pledging ongoing support for nurturing regional football talent.
Co-founder Oluchi Ekwueme, a former professional footballer and proud member of the renowned Ekwueme football family, shared her enthusiasm at the launch. She emphasized the academy’s mission to develop and showcase young players.
“Football is in our blood, and this academy is a way of continuing that legacy. Together with Prof. Nze, we are fully committed to nurturing the stars of tomorrow,” she said.
Ekwueme highlighted her partnership with Professor Nze as a key factor for the academy’s success.
The unveiling also featured a presentation of balls and cones to the academy from supporters Anayo Udogu aka Dodomayana and Senegal Eto’o, who pledged their continued assistance to the fledgling institution.
With its official inauguration now behind it, the Prof. M.A. Nze/Oluchi Ekwueme Soccer Academy is set to become a cornerstone for grassroots football, talent development, and the rise of Nigeria’s next generation of football stars.
