Every year on November 25, the world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
On December 10, we celebrate Human Rights Day, first launched in 1991.
This global movement was initiated by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) during the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute held at Rutgers University,USA.
The campaign was designed to unite governments, organizations, communities, and individuals in calling for an end to all forms of violence against women and girls.

Why 16 Days?
The campaign spans 16 days, linking two symbolic dates:
November 25: International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
December 10: Human Rights Day
This connection underscores the truth that violence against women is a violation of human rights.

The 16 Days of Activism campaign emphasizes:
Raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV)
Promoting safe communities for women, girls, men, and boys
Educating the public and institutions
Encouraging reporting and early intervention
Influencing policy and legislation
Mobilizing men and boys as allies
Supporting survivors
