
CSAAE Participates in Agroecology Workshop at UAES
On April 6, 2025, CSAAE proudly participated in a groundbreaking workshop at the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (UAES), Umuagwo, focused on introducing the new MSc. Agroecology and Food System programme. With UAES emerging as one of the first universities in Nigeria to offer this pioneering programme, the workshop served as a platform to raise public awareness and build capacity for sustainable agriculture and food security.
The event drew approximately 300 participants, including academics, researchers, students, policymakers, and stakeholders from the agricultural sector. The interactive sessions highlighted the urgent need to adopt agroecological practices that can transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Key Presentations
Prof. Emmanuel Onweremadu underscored the relevance of agroecology in addressing Nigeria’s pressing environmental and food security challenges. He emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary and practical training to build a workforce capable of driving innovation in the sector.
Prof. Rose Nwabueze detailed the programme’s structure, admission criteria, and curriculum highlights, noting that graduates will be well-equipped to lead sustainable agricultural practices in Nigeria.
Prof. Onyekuru NwaJesus provided insights into career opportunities for graduates, including roles in policy development, academic research, sustainable farming, and food systems management.
