On October 11, 2024, the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy, and Ethics (CSAAE) joined the global celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, focusing on the theme #Vision for the Future. This day, dedicated to recognizing the rights and potential of EVERY GIRL, holds special significance for CSAAE as part of our advocacy mission to empower young girls with the information and skills they need to navigate life.
CSAAE visited Future Glory International School in Orji, Owerri, Imo State Nigeria, to celebrate this special day with the students. The event proved to be a timely intervention in the lives of girls who face unique challenges in today’s world. One could feel the excitement as our team interacted with both students and tutors, using this special occasion to educate and inspire our young queens.
Advocacy Meets Education
A major highlight of the occasion was a session led by our DigiWomen Center, which taught the girls how to effectively leverage digital tools and social media for advocacy, especially against various forms of abuse, maltreatment, rape, and victimization. With numerous records of gender-based violence coupled with the growing digital divide especially for young girls in rural areas, these interventions have become even more crucial. The session demonstrated in practical terms, what constitutes abuse, how to recognize abuse, and how to utilize the digital channels available to speak up and seek help. Technology can be an agent for driving necessary conversations around girls’ rights, education, and safety. By empowering the students on how to become better advocates, CSAAE is Building the Future, One Girl at a Time
The school’s principal expressed his profound joy for our visit, applauding CSAAE’s commitment to girl-child education and empowerment. He also used the opportunity to call on other organizations to join the campaign and invest in the future of young girls.
