Building resilience: Mental Health Outreach for Children

On Friday, October 25th 2024, Diovinic Academy Owerri came alive with purpose as C-Health, a dedicated subsection of the Centre for Social Awareness, Advocacy, and Ethics (CSAAE), hosted an inspiring mental health outreach program for children. with a focus on empowering young minds to prioritize their mental health, the event balanced  education with fun and engagement.

Children were taught essential self-care strategies for their mental well-being, learning that just as they look after their physical health, their minds deserve the same level of attention and care. Through age-appropriate discussions, the cchildren discovered how to identify common triggers for mental health problems and were encouraged to speak up and seek help whenever they felt sad, anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. Educators from C-Health  shared practical lessons on how to recognize various forms of mental health challenges and how the students can manage their emotions and build resilience.

The enthusiasm among the children was indeed inspiring as they showed genuine interest in learning about mental health—an often-overlooked area of health education. The Principal of Diovinic Academy  Mr. Modestus C. Ugo,  while thanking the C-Health team for this impactful outreach expressed his delight in seeing that the  children were very receptive and interested in issues of mental health. He also reiterated the school’s commitment in ensuring that the mental well being of her students is given primary attention.

This program adds to the litany of other notable initiatives by CSAAE as part of the organization’s broader advocacy drive to promote a better and healthier society for all. By highlighting the importance of mental wellness in a supportive and engaging environment, CSAAE is helping to nurture a generation of resilient young people who know the value of  open communication, and self awareness.

This outreach is  another  testament to the positive change achievable through partnerships and community collaboration..
