YOMI: WE MUST SUPPORT OUR WOMEN

On the 9th of March 2022, the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) brought together stakeholders in women development to discuss women economic empowerment.

As a stakeholder in women economic empowerment, DBN invited CSAAE to the engagement.

Our Abuja liason officer and resource mobilization manager, Ms. Chiazo Nwankwo represented CSAAE at the event.

CSAAE has a program fully dedicated to women economic inclusion and empowerment. The name of the program is “Young Mompreneurs Initiative.”(YOMI).

We launched YOMI in Imo in 2018 with initial funding from ACCESS Bank. Today YOMI has expanded to the five South Eastern states and Rivers State with the plan to expand to other parts of Nigeria.

YOMI has one goal: To help women make a living out of their businesses and create opportunities that will help others put food on the table for their kids.

YOMI mainstreams rural womenpreneurs from the informal to the formal sectors, links them to input, finance and service providers. YOMI trains women in core, technical and business management skills.

Last year, YOMI mainstreamed over 300 women owned businesses and prepared over 150 womenpreneurs for export.

I had the opportunity to meet with the state leaders of YOMI last year and I was amazed at the zeal and passion of these struggling mothers. One of the ladies had her baby on her back and that really made me think about the challenges women face combinning child bearing and career.

We must support our women, especially our rural women and we must do so now!
