The partnership between the Centre for social awareness, advocacy and ethics (CSAAE) and The centre for women and gender studies, Imo state university, Owerri.

In line with the aim and objectives of the centre for social awareness, advocacy, and ethics (CSAAE), “A better Africa where all can find support and encouragement to work hard, live with dignity and feel proud to belong”.  CSAAE through its Executive director, Rev.fr. Dr. Godswill Uchenna Agbagwa has partnered with the Imo state university’s centre for women and gender studies to interrogate the fundament issues women and girls face in Society and the social injustice that has been poured on women for centuries.

The Duo plans on engaging in numerous issues affecting women, which include;

  • – Health insurance scheme for women
  • – The social-cultural prejudices towards women in society
  • – Gender inequality
  • – Unbalanced system of governance
  • – Improper nature of the patriarchal society and its harm to women

The Director of the Imo state university’s, Centre for women and gender studies, Prof. F.C Emenalo in line with her vision to see a functional society, where women can live in dignity and equity as their fellow counterparts, has keyed into the partnership.

The partnership would work, towards

I. Collection and Resolution of the issues of data and database on the female gender.

Example;

  • – There is little or no information on the number of widows or pregnant women in Imo state
  • – Little or no information on the number of women suffering from gender-based violence
  • – Little information on women forced to undergo female genital mutilation (FGM), against their will
  • – Little information on under-age marriages, and under-age mothers
  • – Little information on forced labour involving women

 

II. Training people on the ability to spot tribulations concerning women, and processes to follow in other to resolve these issues

III. Building the center for women and gender studies, Imo state University (IMSU), to be recon as an unavoidable stakeholder in matters of women in Imo state.

IV. Strategics to improve women’s participation and inclusion in politics

V. Strategics to improve the admission intensity of postgraduate programs in the center.

VI. Encourage and empower women with tech and digital skills, to be globally competitive.

 

 

CSAAE, after meeting with the Vice-chancellor of IMSU, Prof. UCHEFULA UGONNA CHUKWUMAEZE,(SAN), and the management of the Imo state university (IMSU), concluded that;

  • International women’s day would be declared a school activity-free day. The management of the Imo state university and the centre for social awareness, advocacy, and ethics (CSAAE) would organize a public lecture on gender consciousness.
  • The university is readily committed to working hands in gloves with the centre for social awareness Advocacy and ethic (CSAAE), to reposition and improve the centre for women and gender studies.
  • The school management is ready to corporate with CSAAE to facilitate postgraduate programs in the centre for women and gender studies.

Godswill Uchenna Agbagwa is a Catholic priest and a social ethicist. He was born in Umueze Amaimo, a small village in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State to Mr. Charlyman Chikamnele Agbagwa and Mrs. Evelyn Chinyere Agbagwa of blessed memory.
