My name is Obeta Onyinyechi Emmanuela, a product of CSAAEINC’s Emerging African Leaders Program, recently accepted into the Centre’s Network of Effective African Leaders. Recently, I was sent with some others to Divine Mercy Secondary School (DMS) Umuezike, Ofeme for leadership building experience as an English Teacher for a one month summer lesson (August 2017). At DMS, things were not as I thought mainly because of the reluctance of the pupils to attend the summer lesson. But after we addressed them on the importance of education, things changed.
We had to visit the villages to create awareness on the need to attend the organized lesson. In the course of the visit, one could see the need for serious intervention in the country whether by God or by individual(s) especially in the lives of the youths. Being at DMS, I can say was indeed an experience that boosted my stack of motivation. This is because of the proprietor of the school ( Prof. Stanley Anozie) who despite not being in the country dedicates resources financially and otherwise to see to the development of his people.
Every day we complain of the devastating state of the country but fail to do something about it. The Center for Social Awareness Advocacy and Ethics, Inc. (CSAAEINC) is one among a few organizations that are making some difference in our country after recognizing the need to effect a positive change in Nigeria. My stay at DMS has added to my understanding that I can contribute to the society no matter the stage I am at the moment. I cannot thank CSAAEINC enough for the opportunity. I wish my fellow graduates can also have this experience.
